A little embellishment

Framed flowers, jeweled details, and the pleasure of playful creation.

A pretty pink rose finds its place in another frame. Around it, paper petals overlap, butterflies settle into the arrangement, and a jeweled border catches the light. The charm lies in those little decisions: a blush blossom here, a lavender flourish there. What began on a printed page has somewhere new to belong.

Wholeheartedly, my hands follow the lovely possibilities tucked inside a flower book. Carefully lifted paper cutouts meet intricate stickers and glints of glitter, each layer lending dimension to the next. To embellish is to let a familiar image flourish. A few finishing touches lend it character, and the hours slip past while the layers take shape.

Playfulness belongs here, too. A tiny chapel can wear a pink rhinestone roof; a butterfly can rest above a doorway. A miniature house and my newly finished barn join the bedazzled frames, with sticker mâché lending each creation its own color and texture. There is something endearing about these miniature details, right down to the uneven edges that tell you a person worked on them. A touch of bling brings brightness to the quieter comforts of my surroundings.

Those years of homeschooling and exploring nature with my children live in the earlier pages of Honing In to Home. Flowers, books, and close attention still accompany me, though this season offers a different pace. The return to myself unfolding through Stillness, Solitude, and Silence has room for creative pleasure. The same soul, with more freedom to follow my desires and delights, my passions and pursuits.

The Art of Contemplation belongs alongside them. Looking closely reveals how a pale petal curves, how a gem changes color as the sunlight moves, how one small addition alters the entire composition. Absorbed in the work, my attention rests on what is before me. This is an afternoon well spent, without a clock deciding its worth.

Giving a finished piece to someone who has been on my heart carries that affection beyond the table where it began. Before it leaves, perhaps one final accent finds its place. Then comes the satisfaction of sharing something unmistakably personal, crafted with care. What we focus on grows; here, a fondness for floral beauty becomes something another person can hold.

An embellished setting inspired by photographs of my handmade creations.
