There is room for you here

Sunday dinner, handmade gifts, and the feeling of being welcome.

My life has unfolded in chambers: childhood, survival, motherhood, marriage, faith, loss, awakening, rebuilding. There were years of homeschooling, exploring nature with my children, reading aloud, creating comfort, and holding emotional atmospheres together. Often exhausted, my heart remained deeply devoted to my children. Motherhood was an initiation while I was still becoming myself.

Sunday dinner is a tradition I carry from my own family. A thoughtfully set table, familiar faces coming and going, and conversation outlasting the meal have always delighted me. What satisfaction there is in lending a familiar Sunday a celebratory touch. Whoever walks into our home deserves to feel seen, acknowledged, and welcome. A framed flower page, made with hours of attention, says the same thing in another language.

The sacred has always revealed itself through little peepholes in ordinary life—in kitchens, gardens, bedrooms, oceans, conversations, and tenderness. Now, I am fully embracing those glimpses, cherishing what they reveal in the life already here. That welcome is the heart of a home. The hearth says: you may rest here. You may soften here. You may remain.

My earlier writing in Honing In to Home came from the full, formative days of motherhood and faith. Today, that same hospitality flows from a sincere spirit—an overflow of who I am, grounded in what feels true to me, with generosity that comes naturally. As I expand, I want the table to hold ease for me as well as tenderness for everyone gathered around it.

There is room at the hearth for a pause in the conversation, for a sigh, for someone who has no polished story to tell. An invitation can be that generous. We can arrive as we are and let the evening hold us for a little while.
