Where flowers find a home
Bouquets, floral artwork, handmade gifts, and the welcome woven through our home.
Flowers find their way through so much of my life. A bouquet on the table, a floral canvas on the wall, a paper blossom framed by hand: each draws my eye in its own way. Pink has always called to me, though creamy petals and lavender tones have their place, too. Those colors can change the feeling of a familiar corner before anything else is moved.
This week, Aarron bought me a bouquet, and my son did as well. Receiving those gifts means more than admiring the arrangements. They know how much roses matter to me. Looking at the velvety folds, there is affection tucked among the stems, a reminder that this particular love of mine is known by the people sharing my days.
From vase to canvas, that fondness keeps finding another form. Pages from a flower book become layered artwork; stickers and jeweled borders bring their own charm. Wooden turned whimsical: my bedazzled frames, house, chapel, and newly finished barn each have a place in this growing collection. A little glitter lends a plain surface a glamorous finish. Choosing an accent or trying a different combination brings me back to childlike curiosity. Here, my imagination has room to bloom. Sometimes the pleasure is simply seeing what happens next.
Giving a finished piece to someone who has been on my heart is another way that affection travels. A floral keepsake can carry hours of care into someone else’s surroundings. Knowing that others enjoy these gifts adds to the delight of crafting them. Yet the welcome extends beyond anything wrapped or framed: hospitality has always been part of the life our household holds.
Years of homeschooling and exploring nature with my children helped shape the earlier pages of Honing In to Home. Now, the hearth holds its own invitation: enjoy what draws my eye. Sunlight streams across the room, catching a sparkling detail or scattering rainbow rays. The Art of Contemplation follows that fondness for looking closely, discovering something new in a setting so familiar.
Visitors bring their own stories into our house. The children’s friends have often found a place to chat with me, and that sense of being seen matters as much as the décor. Flowers contribute to the welcome, but the conversation gives it life. My hope is for someone to feel comfortable staying a little longer, whether there is a handmade gift waiting for them or simply a seat nearby. From floral frames to a gracious greeting, these expressions portray my personal posture: an openhearted welcome, a love of beauty, and the glowing hearth at my core—a key to the garden gate, inviting you into my enchanting world, where I share a small piece of my soul.
For now, bouquets from Aarron and others are part of my surroundings, alongside the pieces fashioned by my own hands. Sometimes, buying yourself flowers is a gift of love to you, from you. Choose the petals that please you; no special occasion is required. Watch a soft shadow shift. There is no need to fill the quiet; an unhurried moment is yours to enjoy.
An imagined setting inspired by my bouquets and handmade floral creations.
